I BET Awards sono dei premi istituiti nel 2001 dal network Black Entertainment Television per celebrare afroamericani nel campo della musica, della recitazione, dello sport, e di altri settori dell'intrattenimento.
A guidare il gruppo R&B in tre categorie è Ari Lennox, che ha ricevuto quattro nomination. Il singolo di successo "Pressure" della cantante di Washington ha ottenuto due riconoscimenti, tra cui Video dell'anno e Bet Her. In quest'ultimo campo ha ottenuto due nomination, l'altra insieme a Summer Walker per "Unloyal".
Tra i candidati attesi figurano Jazmine Sullivan, H.E.R. e Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars e Anderson .Paak), che hanno ottenuto tre riconoscimenti ciascuno. Concorreranno nella categoria Album dell'anno per le loro rispettive pubblicazioni.
Anche Mary J. Blige, che ha portato a casa il Lifetime Achievement Award nel 2019, è in lizza per tre trofei, tra cui quello di Best Female R&B/Pop Artist.
Chlöe ha ottenuto per la prima volta tre nomination da solista, tra cui il Video dell'anno per "Have Mercy". La cantautrice emergente condivide anche una nomination come Miglior Gruppo con la sorella Halle Bailey, nel gruppo Chloe x Halle.
